‘Political alliances must be marriages of principle,’ Citizens First Party gives condition for coalition talks

The Citizens First party has called for open, round-table meetings focused not on political positions, but on a shared national agenda aimed at serving and saving the country.

Party National Women’s Chairlady, Faith Munthali, also welcomed dialogue and partnership with any political party that is sincere in its desire to serve the Zambian people.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday, Munthali said that after decades of cyclical disappointment, the country must approach this political moment with wisdom, clarity and an uncompromising demand for transparency.

She said the party would welcome partnerships but insisted it must be clear where potential allies stand regarding the pre-condition of presidential candidature.

“History has shown that when political calculations override the people’s will, it is the youth, the future of this country, who suffer the most from unemployment and lost opportunity. It is women who struggle to feed their families,” Munthali stated.

She urged political leaders pursuing alliances to be open with citizens and reveal their true intentions for the country.

Munthali noted that while all political parties had their own advisors, the Council of Elders must transcend partisan interests and guide the nation toward the common good.

“What is the purpose they carry? Alliances cannot be mere marriages of convenience for sharing power; they must be marriages of principle for sharing a national vision,” she said.

Munthali added that any alliance built on a people-centred agenda for Zambia was welcome, and any presidential candidate recommended by the majority of Zambians—not only by political parties—would receive the party’s support.

She said Citizens First had prepared party president Harry Kalaba for national leadership and that he was ready to serve. However, she noted that any other presidential candidate who genuinely convinced the Zambian people and shared the party’s core ideals for transformation would also be welcome to work with them.
