The long-running dispute involving the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) is set to take a significant step forward next month after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) confirmed a hearing date for the appeal.
The hearing will take place on 8 October 2026 at the organisation’s headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, reports Super Sport.
The appeal was lodged by the FSF on March 25, 2026 against CAF and the FRMF, challenging CAF Appeals Board’s decision to overturn Senegal’s 1-0 extra-time victory in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final and award Morocco a 3-0 forfeit win.
The final, played on January 18, 2026 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, was marred by chaos late in normal time when referee Jean-Jacques Ndala awarded Morocco a penalty after a VAR review.
Several Senegal players walked off the pitch in protest, halting the game for almost 20 minutes before returning.
Brahim Diaz missed the penalty with an attempted Panenka, and Pape Gueye scored the winner in the 94th minute.
In March 2026, CAF ruled Senegal had breached Article 82 of the AFCON regulations and declared the team to have forfeited the final.

The FSF is now asking CAS to annul the CAF ruling and declare Senegal winners of AFCON 2025.
CAS confirmed that the hearing would be conducted behind closed doors after all parties agreed not to request a public hearing.
“The hearing will be in person at CAS headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. The hearing date was fixed after consultation with the Parties, who did not request that it be made public. This means it will take place behind closed doors, without media present,” CAS said in its operational note.
Representatives from both the FSF and FRMF are expected to attend the hearing in person in Lausanne, while CAF would be represented by its legal team.
The arbitration panel appointed to hear the case consists of:
Professor Gérald Simon (France) – President of the Panel
Professor Luigi Fumagalli (Italy)
Professor Dr. Ulrich Haas (Germany)
