The 9th edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) lit up Lagos as winners emerged across several competitive categories, celebrating Africa’s rich and diverse musical heritage.
The star-studded event attracted top celebrities, industry stakeholders, and music fans from across the continent and beyond, according to Channelstv.
The ceremony, one of Africa’s biggest music showcases, highlighted outstanding achievements in dance, songwriting, soundtracks, and regional artistry, reaffirming AFRIMA’s role in promoting African creativity on a global stage.
In the Best African Dance/Choreography category, Ethiopia’s Weeha claimed the top prize with “Dimama”, edging out strong contenders from Morocco, Cameroon, Nigeria, South Africa, and other African nations.

The win marked a major milestone for Ethiopian representation at the awards.
The Best Soundtrack in a Movie, Series, or Documentary award went to Nigerian superstar Yemi Alade for “You Are”, featured in “Iyanu: The Animated Series”.
Her victory underscored the growing influence of African music in film and animation.
Songwriting excellence was celebrated with Senegal’s Bakhaw Dioum taking home Songwriter of the Year for “Choix”, performed by Mia Guissé featuring Wally B. Seck.
The category featured a diverse lineup of nominees from across Africa, reflecting the continent’s lyrical depth and storytelling traditions.
Regional categories also produced notable winners.
In Best Female Artiste in Eastern Africa, Madagascar’s Denise emerged victorious, while Tanzania’s Jux won Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa, strengthening Tanzania’s strong presence at this year’s awards.
Central Africa saw Cindy Le Coeur of the Democratic Republic of Congo crowned Best Female Artiste in Central Africa, adding to her growing list of continental accolades.
The night also paid tribute to industry pioneers with Lifetime Achievement Awards presented to renowned Nigerian music executives and brothers, Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo “Dee 1” Adeneye, in recognition of their immense contributions to the growth of African music.
With electrifying performances, glamorous red-carpet appearances, and emotional acceptance speeches, the 9th AFRIMA Awards once again celebrated African music as a unifying force, spotlighting talent that continues to shape the sound of the continent and influence global music trends.
