Tembo, Patriots for Economic Progress leader, pleads not guilty over ‘masturbation’ remark

Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) leader, Sean Tembo, has appeared at the Lusaka Magistrates Court and pleaded not guilty to use of insulting language.

Tembo, 40, is charged with one count of use of insulting language, Contrary to Section 179 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Facts are that on October 17, 2023, PeP president did say “Bally is selling a few bags of ZNS mealie meal using Shoprite, hoping to create a perception of low price is equal Masturbation,” insulting language likely to give such provocation to Abel Mashowo as to cause him to break the law.

Appearing before Chief Resident Magistrate, Davies Chibwili on Friday, the accused denied committing the offence.

Magistrate Chibwili adjourned the matter to January 5, 2024 for mention and February 1, 2024 for commencement of trial.
