Two killed, one injured in separate road traffic accidents in Lusaka

Police in Lusaka have launched investigations into two separate fatal road traffic accidents that claimed the lives of two people, while another person sustained serious injuries.

On August 11, 2025, Chongwe Police Station attended to a fatal accident at the Zambia National Service Bridge along Great East Road around 18:30 hours.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi, 16-year-old motorcyclist Edward Mwelwa, riding an unregistered King Boss motorbike, was fatally injured after being hit by an unidentified vehicle that fled the scene.

His body has been deposited in the Chongwe District Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem.

In a separate incident in Kabangwe area at 15 Miles along Great North Road around 19:30 hours, a female pedestrian, Providence Habalulema, aged 35, was hit and fatally injured by a motorbike ridden by 28-year-old Lyson Zulu.

Her body is at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary awaiting post-mortem.

Meanwhile, Matero Police Station recorded a serious road traffic accident around 07:00 hours on Mungwi Road near Pepsi Company.

A Dongfeng truck (registration CAA 7873), driven by 43-year-old Charles Sinyangwe, collided with a Volvo F26 truck (registration BAK 5974), driven by 31-year-old Misheck Mpande.

A 60-year-old pedestrian, Mary Njobvu, was struck in the process and is admitted to UTH.

“The Zambia Police Service urges all road users to follow traffic rules and drive safely to prevent further accidents,” Chilabi said.
