Vice President Mutale Nalumango has condemned attacks, insults and degrading narratives targeting women, particularly those serving in the country’s Defence and Security Services, saying such conduct should not be tolerated or allowed to shape the nation’s identity.
Speaking during a gala dinner held at Arakan Barracks Banquet Hall on Saturday, Nalumango said the growing negative discourse on social media against women in uniform was concerning and must be addressed.
“Attacks, insults, and degrading narratives circulating on social media against women cannot be ignored and allowed to shape the identity of the nation,” she said.
The Vice President praised women serving in the Defence and Security Services, describing them as key contributors to national stability and security.
Nalumango noted that women in uniform had demonstrated their importance in safeguarding communities and strengthening national security due to their protective nature.

“Women in the Defence and Security have shown that they are an integral part in national security due to their protective nature in society. Women are defenders and protectors by nature, bringing stability to society,” she said.
She further emphasised that Zambia’s strength lied in unity, particularly during times of crisis, adding that women continued to play a critical leadership role in safeguarding the country.
“We now look to you, our women in Defence as pillars of protection and symbols of resilience.
Your leadership is needed not only on the frontlines, but also in shaping the moral fabric of our society,” Nalumango said.
Women from various Defence and Security Services gathered for the gala dinner to celebrate their contributions to national defence and security.
The event, held under the theme “She Defends. She Protects. She Leads: Women Unifying Zambia’s Defence and Security,” saw women in uniform dressed in black and gold dinner attire, supported by their male counterparts.
Organising Committee Chairperson, Mwizukanji Namwawa, said the event was aimed at recognising the achievements of women who have played a significant role in securing communities.
“It is important to celebrate women as they have achieved milestones in securing communities,” Brigadier General Namwawa said.
During the event, outstanding personnel were honoured across three categories: Active Duty Excellence Award, Distinguished Retired Service Award and Outstanding Male Champion Award.
