Wife, alleged girl friend of celebrity detainee, Kasanda, battle in court over reported assault case

Espionage suspect, Shadrick Kasanda’s wife, Lauren Rhaphaelle, on Wednesday pleaded not guilty to assulting her husband’s alleged lover.

Rhaphaelle, 25, who appeared before Lusaka Magistrate, Mbuywana Sinvula, is facing a charge of assualt occassioning actual bodily harm contrary to section 248 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.

It was alleged on August 9, 2023, that the accused did assualt Rumbidizai Chibanda, thereby, occassioning her actual bodily harm.

The incident was alleged to have occurred at Lusaka Correctional facility, when both women went to visit Kasanda, who was in detention for a charge of espionage.

Magistrate Sinvula adjourned the matter to November 8, for commencement of trial.

Kasanda who is jointly charged with four others for espionage is still in detention at Mwembeshi maximum prison awaiting appearance in the High Court.
