The Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) has stressed the importance of building strong local content frameworks to ensure Zambians actively participate in the battery and clean energy value chains.
ZACCI Acting Chief Executive Officer, Emmanuel Mumba, made the remarks during a high-level panel discussion on “Battery Value Chain and Clean Energy – Zambia’s Role in the Global Transition” at the ongoing 2025 Zambia Alternative Mining Indaba, held at Radisson Blu Hotel in Lusaka.
Mumba said Zambia must also prioritise establishing strategic mineral reserves and developing innovative pricing models to guarantee a reliable supply for local manufacturers.
“There is need to stimulate investment through local procurement, fiscal incentives, and protection from import pressures,” he said.
On regional collaboration, Mumba urged government to strengthen the DRC–Zambia Battery Council to harmonize regulations, pool resources, and attract regional investment.
He further highlighted the need to leverage research institutions and global partnerships to localise knowledge and build technical capacity in advanced battery technologies.
“The country must ensure high environmental and labour standards, while empowering communities through employment opportunities and SME participation,” Mumba added.
He assured that ZACCI would continue to advocate for a policy and regulatory environment that supports local beneficiation, attracts sustainable investment, and positions Zambia as a key player in the global clean energy transition — creating sustainable jobs and driving economic growth.
