The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that only safe and compliant products were supplied to consumers across the country.

ZCSA Director – Corporate Services, Maikisa Ilukena, said the Agency had intensified its border monitoring, market surveillance, factory inspections, stakeholder engagement, enforcement, and public education initiatives to safeguard consumers.

Speaking on Sunday during the closing and awards ceremony of the inaugural ZCSA National Tennis Championship held at the Ndola Tennis Club, Ilukena said the Agency remained ready to support producers covered by compulsory standards to meet regulatory requirements.

“Our goal is to help producers not only access local markets but also penetrate regional and international markets through compliance,” he said.

He urged entrepreneurs and manufacturers to engage ZCSA early, even before commencing production, to ensure they receive proper guidance on good manufacturing practices and product-specific standards.

“This approach enhances product safety, boosts compliance, and increases market access opportunities both domestically and abroad,” Ilukena added.

He further said ZCSA’s sponsorship of the tennis championship demonstrates the Agency’s broader commitment to national development and youth empowerment through sport.

“Through our Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, we are investing in a future where young athletes can thrive in safe and structured environments filled with opportunity,” he said.

Ilukena also expressed concern over the negative social effects linked to unregulated alcoholic beverages, particularly illicit spirits, commending the Zambia Tennis Association (ZTA) for involving young people in the tournament as a positive alternative.

During the event, ZCSA also took the opportunity to sensitise the public on its mandate and new compulsory standards, urging consumers to purchase goods only from reputable and regulated outlets.

ZTA President, Lighton Musonda, thanked ZCSA for sponsoring the tournament, which brought together some of the country’s top tennis players.

“ZCSA’s involvement will undoubtedly contribute to the growth of tennis in Zambia and inspire young players to reach their full potential,” Musonda said.
