Zambia placed in pot 3 ahead of 2023 Africa Cup of Nations draw

The Chipolopolo boys have been placed in pot three ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations draw slated for October 12, 2023.

According to a post on the verified Africa Cup of Nations social media platform, Zambia has been placed in pot three together with South Africa, Cape Verde, Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, and Mauritania.

Zambia had the prospect of being drawn with hosts Ivory Coast, defending Champions Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and the 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finalists, Morocco who are placed in pot one.

Pot two consists of Ghana, Nigeria, Mali, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, and neighbours Democratic Republic of Congo who are also potential opponents in next month’s final draw outcome.

Zambia would also be drawn with a team from pot four which consists of teams like Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Tanzania, Namibia, Mozambique, and Gambia.

The Africa Cup of Nations would run from January 13, 2024 through to February 11, 2024.

The teams would be divided into six groups comprising of four teams each.

The top two teams in each group would qualify for the Round of 16, alongside the four best teams ranked third across all six groups.

Zambia recently qualified for 34th Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Ivory Coast after missing out on the past three editions.

POT 1: Ivory Coast, Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria.

POT 2: Nigeria, Mali, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ghana, Congo DR

POT 3: South Africa, Cape Verde, Guinea, Zambia, Equatorial Guinea, Mauritania.

POT 4: Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Tanzania, Namibia, Mozambique, Gambia.
