Tanzanian trucker reportedly found dead in convoy heading to Kasumbalesa

Copperbelt Police Chief, Peacewell Mweemba, says a 60-year-old Tanzanian truck driver has reportedly died while in convoy on the way to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Mweemba said in a statement on Sunday that Ally Chomba, aged 60, died from sudden and unnatural death according to preliminary investigations.

“We recorded a sudden and unnatural death of the truck driver on Sunday around 07:00 hours along the Kitwe-Chingola road near Yama’s lodge in Chambishi,” he said.

Teddy Atanasi 25 reported that a truck driver had been found dead in his truck which was in convoy going to Kasumbalesa with other trucks.

Mweemba said the deceased worked for Inara investment company and was driving a truck registration number T811 DYS loaded with lime from Tanzania going to the DRC was on convoy with other trucks.

On Sunday when trucks started moving, he said the drivers behind the victim’s truck noticed that his truck in front was not moving and, when they checked, discovered that he was dead while in a sitting position.

“Police visited the scene and no physical injuries had been observed on the body, which had been taken to Chambishi giver need clinic mortuary and the truck and its cargo had been driven to Chambishi police station,” Mweemba said.
