The Zambian government has issued an alert urging its citizens living abroad and those intending to travel to familiarize themselves with the immigration laws and regulations of their host or destination countries.
The advisory comes in the wake of the United States government’s announcement of new measures aimed at strengthening border security and ensuring compliance with its immigration laws by all foreign nationals.
In a statement dated July 11, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation noted that many other countries were implementing similar actions to protect their own citizens.
The Ministry emphasized the importance of strict compliance with immigration laws to avoid breaching host country regulations.
“We urge every Zambian in the diaspora or traveling abroad to strictly observe all immigration laws and regulations of the host country,” it stated.
It warned that violations could not only jeopardize an individual’s immigration status but also tarnish Zambia’s international reputation and potentially trigger broader policy consequences affecting all Zambians abroad.
The advisory further reminded citizens to maintain valid immigration status at all times and to report any changes in their status to the relevant immigration authorities promptly, to avoid being classified as prohibited immigrants or facing deportation.
“Any changes in immigration status must be communicated to the immigration departments of host countries within a reasonable time to avoid prohibited immigrant status and deportation,” the statement added.
Zambians residing in or traveling to the United States were specifically advised to liaise with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as appropriate.
