Central province has attracted $2 billion in investment pledges, Provincial Permanent Secretary claims

Central Province has reportedly received investment pledges worth US$2 billion this year, according to Provincial Permanent Secretary, Dr. Milner Munakampwe.

The US$2 billion in investments is earmarked to go in key sectors such as agriculture, mining, manufacturing, energy and infrastructure.

Mwanakampwe said this during the 2nd Quarter Provincial Development Committee Meeting in Kabwe on Monday, according to a statement issued by Provincial Principal Public Relations Officer, Tobias Phiri.

He said the province was receiving great support from investors who had shown interest to set up investments in the various sectors of the economy and help create employment for the local people.

“Central Province has become an attractive environment for private investments. To date, we have over $2 billion in investments that are supposed to come in key sectors such as agriculture, mining, manufacturing, energy and infrastructure,” Mwanakampwe said.

In addition, he claimed that cooperating partners had pledged over $722 million in investment including the transformative Zambia Jiangxi Multi-Facility Economic Zone domiciled in Chibombo District.

Mwanakampwe stated that this had a total projected investment of $600 million of which $200 million had already been actualised.

“The MFEZ presents a huge milestone towards industrialisation and value addition,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mwanakampwe advised the participants to treat the meetings with the seriousness they deserved as they were decision making fora.

He advised officers in the tendency of shunning the meetings and assigning proxy’s to desist and show seriousness.
