The World Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature Zambia has called on global partners to help Zambia invest in nature based solutions that empower communities and support inclusive financing for grssroot adaptation.

WWF Zambia Country Director Nalucha Zimba also emphasized the need for Zambia and other African countries to strengthen cross sectoral collaboration to bridge policy and practice.

Ziba said this during the United Nations Global National Adaptation Plan Expo held at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka under the theme:” Intergrating Science, policy, finance, and low cost innovative technologies for climate adaptation: the Zambian exprience.”

She stated that adaptation was not just a technical challenge but a human imperative and by placing people and nature at the centre of strategies, countries can build a future that was not only resilient but regenerative.

“Zambia’s experience offers a roadmap for integrating Science, policy, finance, and innovation into adaptation planning but we must scale up,” Ziba stated.

She said in Zambia, climate adaptation begins with nature and through WWF-led initiatives, the country was restoring degraded ecosystems, wetlands, forests, and watersheds, while empowering communities to lead the change.

Ziba cited areas like the Magoye River Catchment where community driven restoration efforts were improving soil health, water retention, and biodiversity while in the Silowana sustainable agriculture was improving food security.

She stated that the efforts in such areas were protecting habitats and were not just about ecological but economic social lifelines.

“Water scarcity is one of Zambia’s most pressing climate challenges. Adaptation must be economically viable,” Ziba emphasized.
