Police in Lusaka have launched an investigation into a suspected case of poisoning after a 47-year-old man was discovered dead in Kalingalinga Compound on Saturday morning.

The deceased, identified as Moses Daka, was found lifeless outside a gate near Fipelwa na Lesa shop around 06:00 hours, with foam and watery substances oozing from his mouth.

A bottle labeled Bloom, believed to contain poison, was recovered next to the body, while another empty container labeled Boam was found nearby.

According to Zambia Police Assistant Public Relations Officer, Chipo Kaitisha, said officers rushed to the scene after receiving a report from area councillor, Mukubesa Nyoni, who alerted authorities about the disturbing discovery.

“Household belongings were scattered near the body, suggesting he may have spent the night outside,” Kaitisha confirmed.

She said preliminary investigations reveal that Daka, his wife Karen Mwela, 36, and their two children had been evicted from their rented home the previous day.

While his wife and children sought shelter at a neighbour’s house, Daka reportedly chose to remain with their property and was last seen alive around 20:00 hours.

By morning, tragedy had struck.

The body has since been taken to the University Teaching Hospital mortuary for a postmortem to establish the exact cause of death, as police continue probing the matter.
