The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) has distributed 6.4 million condoms to Eastern Province in preparation for the Kulamba Traditional Ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, August 30, 2025.

The provision and use of condoms are crucial in promoting public health, helping to prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV/AIDS, and unplanned pregnancies, said Bradley Chingobe, ZAMMSA Senior Manager for Corporate Communications.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Thursday, Chingobe noted that the initiative was part of ZAMMSA’s ongoing collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to promote safe public health practices and safeguard communities during large cultural gatherings.

“Through these efforts, ZAMMSA and UNFPA continue to encourage safe sexual behavior and contribute to the overall health and well-being of the Zambian population,” he said.

ZAMMSA, through its Chipata Regional Hub, also ensures that healthcare facilities across the province remain fully stocked with essential medicines and medical supplies.

“This guarantees that attendees of the ceremony, as well as surrounding communities, have access to adequate healthcare services whenever needed,” Chingobe added.

He assured that the agency remained committed to maintaining a steady supply of health commodities, in line with the Government’s goal of delivering quality healthcare to all Zambians.
