Haphazard ZESCO load-shedding schedules damaging UPND’s image, minister Matambo fumes

Copperbelt Minister, Elisha Matambo, has criticised ZESCO Limited over what he described as inconsistent electricity supply schedules, warning that the situation was.
eroding public confidence in the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND).

“The haphazard schedule by ZESCO is making us unpopular, especially on the Copperbelt. They don’t follow the announced schedules and people are complaining. This is subtracting from all the good things President Hakainde Hichilema and his government are doing to transform the economy,” Matambo said.

He was speaking in Ndola on Wednesday when Energy Minister Makozo Chikote paid a courtesy call on him before touring Indeni and TAZAMA facilities.

Matambo said residents were frustrated by unannounced power cuts, including instances where supply was disrupted while people were asleep.

He added that while government was investing in renewable energy projects, including solar and coal power initiatives to address the deficit, ZESCO needed to “put its house in order.”

Energy Minister Chikote also emphasised the need for the utility company to ensure consistency in its operations.
