Vice-President Mutale Nalumango has dismissed as baseless opposition claims that the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) was bent on silencing dissenting voices by sponsoring divisions in political parties.
Addressing UPND officials on the Copperbelt on Thursday, Nalumango said opposition parties were to blame for their own decline, arguing that internal squabbles, not government interference, were eroding their political strength.
“It is political hallucination to accuse the ruling party of bringing confusion in the opposition when they are finishing themselves with unending squabbles. They should not blame us,” she said.
Nalumango highlighted UPND’s achievements, including the introduction of free education, increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF), and expanded Social Cash Transfer (SCT), saying these were key factors pushing the opposition into obscurity.

She further urged party officials to intensify voter mobilization ahead of the 2026 general elections, challenging them to surpass UPND’s 2021 performance.
Copperbelt UPND Chairperson and Provincial Minister, Elisha Matambo, echoed her remarks, saying the ruling party was poised to significantly increase its support base in the province.
“People on the Copperbelt have confidence in the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema. We are making rounds canvassing for votes in readiness for 2026, which will separate boys from men,” Matambo said.
