Mufulira police officer found dead in suspected suicide at Mopani Copper mines

Police in Mufulira have launched investigations into the death of a police officer in a suspected suicide at Mopani Copper Mines.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer, Pathias Siandenge, said in a statement on Monday that Constable Eric Ikowa was found dead at his workstation within the Mufulira Mopani Mines plant.

He said the incident occurred around 06:00 hours on November 16, 2025, and was reported by Chief Inspector Mweetwa, who is attached to the mine.

Siandenge said the body was discovered by Constable Kabwita Gaylord, who was scheduled to take over duty from the deceased.

“The victim sustained a fatal head injury, suspected to be a bullet wound. The motive behind the incident is still unknown,” he said.

The body has been taken to Malcolm Watson Mine Hospital for further examination. Siandenge added that investigations are ongoing, with additional details to be released once findings are concluded.
