The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) says it has registered a total of 1,224,072 new voters as of October 31, 2025, covering phases one to four of the ongoing mass voter registration exercise across the country.
Giving an update at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka on Wednesday, ECZ Chief Executive Officer, Brown Kasaro, said the Commission had observed an increase in the number of people registering, particularly during the last two phases, with several districts recording higher turnouts at various registration centres.
Kasaro revealed that Copperbelt Province recorded the highest number of new registrations with 179,956 voters, followed by Eastern Province with 157,780, and Southern Province with 157,317.
He explained that differences in registration figures across provinces did not necessarily indicate better or poorer performance, adding that the variations were influenced by factors such as the total number of eligible voters in each province, which differed significantly.
Kasaro said the Commission had expressed gratitude to the Department of National Registration, Passport and Citizenship (DNRPC) under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security for conducting the mobile National Registration Card (NRC) issuance exercise alongside the ongoing mobile voter registration across all ten provinces.
He added that the exercise had been extended beyond the initial 90-day period to ensure coverage of areas that were previously not adequately reached for NRC registration.

The ECZ Chief Executive Officer further stated that the Commission remained committed to meeting its target of registering 3.5 million additional eligible voters, although this would depend on how stakeholders participated in mobilising potential voters within their communities.
Kasaro also said the Commission had commended all eligible Zambians who had already registered and encouraged those who had not yet done so to visit their nearest registration centres.
He added that the Commission had urged all stakeholders to continue raising awareness about the importance of the ongoing national exercise.
Kasaro further reminded the public that individuals who registered in 2020 or during the Continuous Registration of Voters period and still possessed their voter’s cards remained on the register and did not need to register again.
He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to conducting a transparent, inclusive, and credible voter registration process, anchored on professionalism and service, as Zambia prepares for the 2026 General Election.
