Ziquan Mining Limited in Southern Province has been fined K110,000 by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security for failing to comply with employment laws.
A scrutiny by Labour Inspectors revealed that employees were working without formal terms and conditions of service, as the company had not issued written employment contracts.
Ministry of Labour and Social Security Principal Public Relations Officer, Mwaka Ndawa, confirmed the findings in a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday.
“The company was also operating without workplace policies, which are required to guide conduct, protect employees, and ensure compliance with labour standards,” Ndawa said.
She added that Ziquan Mining Limited was sanctioned under the legal provisions of the Employment Code Act and has been directed to immediately address the violations and comply fully with statutory requirements.
“Failure to do so will attract further sanctions. The Ministry will continue to enforce compliance across all sectors to protect workers from unfair labour practices and promote decent work,” Ndawa said.
