Police in Kabwe District of Central Province have launched investigations into a shooting incident at Jasmine Boys’ Secondary School to establish the circumstances surrounding the event.

Police Spokesperson, Godfrey Chilabi, said officers were working to determine the source of the firearm discharge and identify the person or people responsible.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Thursday, Chilabi said the incident occurred on January 13, 2026, around 10:00 hours, and that no injuries were recorded.

“The Zambia Police Service in Kabwe reported a shooting incident in which a projectile, discharged from an unknown firearm, hit a classroom at Jasmine Boys’ Secondary School,” he said.

The matter was reported to Kasanda Police Station by the School Manager, Kondwani Gondwe, who informed police that a suspected projectile had penetrated the roof of a classroom block and landed on the floor.

Police officers who rushed to the scene conducted a thorough assessment of the school and surrounding area, assuring staff and learners that the environment was safe.

Officers observed a visible hole in the roofing iron sheet, believed to be the point of entry, as well as a small hole in the classroom floor where the projectile struck.

“A teacher and learners were present in the classroom at the time of the incident,” Chilabi added.

He said the projectile was recovered and has since been submitted for forensic examination.
