The Zambia Police Service in Kabwe has confirmed the sudden death of Annita Chomba, a 15-year-old reserve goalkeeper for Locus Queens Football Club of Lusaka.
Police Spokesperson, Godfrey Chilabi, said Chomba collapsed during a Zambia Premier League National in the 75th minute when she rushed to into the pitch to celebrating a goal with her teammates at the corner of the pitch at Godfrey “Ucar” Chitalu Stadium on Saturday.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Sunday, Chilabi added that the incident happened between 10:48 and 12:30 hours at the stadium in Kabwe, during a Zambia Premier League National Division women’s football match between Kabwe Warriors Women Football Club and Locus Queens Football Club of Lusaka.
“After Locus Queens scored, the reserve goalkeeper joined her teammates in celebrating at the corner of the pitch. When the match resumed, she remained on the ground and was noticed to be unresponsive,” Chilabi mentioned.

He explained that the referee immediately halted play and summoned the medical personnel who were on standby at the stadium.
“The medical team briefly attended to her before she was rushed to Railway Surgery Health Centre, which is near the stadium,” Chilabi said.
He said upon arrival at the health facility, the young player was declared dead on arrival by medical personnel at the clinic
He mentioned that the matter was reported to Chowa Police Station at about 13:20 hours by FAZ Match Commissioner, Alfred Banda, aged 42, of Kabwe.
“The body is currently at Kabwe Central Hospital mortuary, where it is being kept pending a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death,” Chilabi added.
