Davos, in Switzerland, was the scene of a major diplomatic act on Thursday 22 January 2026 marking the official entry into force of the Peace Council, a new international initiative designed to instill a renewed dynamic in conflict resolution efforts around the world, particularly in the Middle East.

On the instructions of the King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, President of the Al-Quds Committee, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans residing abroad, Nasser Bourita, signed the Charter constituting the Peace Council. The ceremony was held on the margins of the World Economic Forum in Davos, under the chairmanship of the President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump.

This signature is an extension of the Moroccan Sovereign’s acceptance to join, as a Founding Member, in this initiative, supported by the American President, which aims to “contribute to peace efforts in the Middle East and to adopt a new approach to resolving conflicts in the world”. A vision that puts dialogue, collective responsibility and leadership engagement at the heart of international peace governance.

Morocco, along with Bahrain, was among the first States to sign at the bottom of the Charter. At the end of this founding act, President Trump officially announced the entry into force of the Charter for the effective birth of the Peace Council.

The ceremony brought together about twenty Heads of State and Government, as well as foreign ministers from signatory countries from different regions of the world, including Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, Indonesia, Azerbaijan and Argentina. This diversity is a testament to the international reach of the initiative and the support it generates beyond geographical and political divides.

Reserved for a small circle of leaders of international stature, participation in the Peace Council is conceived as an elite commitment to a secure and prosperous future for future generations. For Morocco, this invitation is an explicit recognition of King Mohammed VI’s thought leadership and his ongoing role as a credible, moderate and inescapable player in peace diplomacy on the international scene.
