The hosts went into the game chasing La Liga leaders’ momentum after a series of impressive results, while Real Sociedad, on an 11-match unbeaten run in all competitions, were aiming to continue their strong form and climb the table.

Real Sociedad responded well, and their pressure nearly paid off when they drew level from the spot, Mikel Oyarzabal converted a penalty in the 21st minute after Dean Huijsen was adjudged to have brought down Yangel Herrera.

Vinícius Júnior restored Madrid’s lead in the 25th minute from the penalty spot and Federico Valverde added a third just six minutes later with a superb strike from outside the box.

Early in the second half, Madrid continued to dominate and put the game beyond doubt when Vinícius converted another penalty in the 48th minute, wrapping up his brace and sealing a comprehensive win.

From that point, Real Sociedad struggled to make serious inroads, with Real Madrid’s defence keeping the visitors at arm’s length and managing the game with assurance as the crowd at the Bernabéu cheered every controlled possession.
