Vice President Mutale Nalumango has praised Ecobank Zambia for its partnership with the government in advancing Zambia’s national development agenda.
Nalumango said the bank’s interventions in agriculture, energy, telecommunications and education were closely aligned with the government’s economic transformation priorities.
The commendation was made during a courtesy call at her office by the Ecobank executive team, led by Board Chairperson Joseph Chikolwa, according to a statement issued on Friday.
“Agriculture remains the backbone of Zambia’s economy, and the Bank’s support to the Food Reserve Agency, particularly in facilitating credit and ensuring timely farmer payments directly strengthens food security and rural livelihoods,” Nalumango said.
She also highlighted Ecobank’s role in enhancing telecommunications connectivity, a key enabler of economic participation, and its partnership with ZESCO to improve energy reliability for industrial productivity.
The Vice President commended the bank’s investments in inclusive education, including ICT laboratories, solar-powered solutions and digital learning initiatives, which she said are ensuring no child is left behind in Zambia’s digital future.

Looking ahead, Nalumango encouraged Ecobank to expand support to other government priorities, particularly in water reticulation and nutrition, which are critical to sustainable development and citizen well-being.

She welcomed the bank’s expansion into Solwezi and other districts, describing it as a timely investment that demonstrates Ecobank’s commitment to uplifting communities.
During the visit, Chikolwa announced the opening of a new branch in Solwezi, emphasizing the bank’s corporate social responsibility initiatives targeting regional communities.
“Ecobank is investing in a major corporate social responsibility initiative targeting communities in the region,” he said.
Aina Moore, Managing Director of Ecobank Zambia, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to working with the government on high-impact programmes.
“Ecobank will continue to prioritize support in critical and high-impact areas identified by Government, ensuring that its interventions directly contribute to Zambia’s development goals and the needs of its people,” Moore said.
