The Zambia Police Service has expressed concern over the increasing number of traffic accidents involving bikers following a fatal motorcycle crash in Mungwi that claimed the life of a 63-year-old man.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Northern Province Police Commanding Officer, Simunji Mulonda, reported that the accident occurred on March 25, 2026, around 16:30 hours at Walinkonde area along Chitimukulu Road in Mungwi.

The accident, which claimed the life of Peter Bwalya, happened when he failed to negotiate a curve, veered off the road, and struck a roadside pillar due to excessive speed.
“The deceased body is lying in the Kasama General Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination while the motor bike is in Police custody as investigations proceed,” he said.
Mulonda said the Police were increasingly worried about the growing number of fatal motorcycle accidents, many of which he attributed to rider negligence and failure to observe safety precautions.
“Some deaths by riders can be avoided by wearing helmets. Despite Police sensitization programs, these just fall on deaf ears,” Mulonda said.
