Kasama Catholic Archbishop Ignatius Chama has called for closure on the matter of Edgar Lungu, who remains unburied more than 10 months after his death in June last year.
The Archbishop urged the faithful to pray for both the Zambian government and the former president’s family so that the two sides can reach a compromise on his burial.
He made the remarks during Ishiwi lyakwa Kachema, a Wednesday programme broadcast on Radio Lutanda.
Archbishop Chama said now that government had confirmed the former Head of State’s death, it was time for authorities to engage the family and ensure he was finally laid to rest.

“Now that you have verified that Lungu is dead, will you agree with the family to give him a dignified burial?” Archbishop Chama asked.
He questioned whether the government would now permit the family to proceed with burying their loved one, following the verification of the circumstances surrounding the former president’s death.
The Archbishop said the time had come for the country to bury a man who served the nation, adding that delaying his burial any further was unacceptable.
“Ili lishiku ku chalo chesu (this is an abomination to the country),” he warned.
His remarks come amid the ongoing impasse between the government and the Lungu family regarding the funeral and burial arrangements of the late former president.
