Burkina Faso’s ruling military government has ramped up security measures in the capital, Ouagadougou, following coordinated attacks in neighbouring Mali, security sources have revealed.
The country’s security ministry on Tuesday announced a nationwide operation to reinforce safety and urged citizens to remain vigilant, reports Africanews.
The public has been encouraged to report suspicious activity, particularly around key installations such as military barracks, airports and government buildings.

Security sources said police units have been deployed at strategic points across the capital, with operations also focused on gathering intelligence linked to crime and terrorism.
The heightened alert comes in response to recent large-scale attacks in Mali involving jihadist groups and Tuareg rebels.
Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger—each governed by military juntas—have been battling insurgencies linked to al-Qaeda and Islamic State for over a decade.
A military source in Burkina Faso said the country remains on high alert, stressing that the situation reflects an ongoing state of war, though the developments in Mali have prompted increased vigilance.
Meanwhile, Niger has cancelled its May 1 celebrations due to security concerns, while Ivory Coast has said its borders remain secure but warned it could face an influx of refugees due to the violence in Mali.
