Ecobank Zambia has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing education, professional development, empowering youth and strengthening industry academia collaborations.
The bank hosted students from the Institute of Internal Auditors (Student Chapter at Copperbelt University) for an educational industrial tour at its Head Office on May 29, 2026.
The session was designed to provide students with practical exposure to the realities of internal auditing and corporate governance within a leading financial institution, according to a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday.
During the industrial tour, students gained valuable knowledge from Ecobank’s Finance, Compliance, Internal Control, and Internal Audit departments, each of which contributed presentations tailored to their areas of expertise.
“For Ecobank, hosting educational tours is about investing in the future. By giving students firsthand exposure to our systems and processes, we help bridge the gap between theory and practice while strengthening the pipeline of talent that will one day lead the financial sector,” said Glenda Kamalata, Bank Head of Marketing and Corporate Communication.
The departments shared real examples and case studies to bridge the gap between classroom theory and professional practice, ensuring students could see how principles are applied in everyday banking operations.

Students received insights into internal audit functions, risk management frameworks, compliance mechanisms, financial reporting processes, and corporate governance practices.
Kamalata noted that such initiatives demonstrated how financial institutions operated in practice and allowed young people to see the principles of accountability, transparency, and governance applied in real time.
“This is an important part of our stakeholder engagement, ensuring that academia and industry work hand in hand to build a stronger economy,” she said.
The collaboration enriched the students’ academic journey and underscored Ecobank’s commitment to stakeholder engagement, fostering transparency and strengthening the link between academia and industry.
The event highlighted Ecobank’s role as a trusted partner in advancing education and professional development while contributing to Zambia’s long-term economic growth.
Representing the student body, Blessings Kalengo Shilo, President of the IIA Student Chapter at Copperbelt University, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Ecobank for opening its doors.
“We are grateful to Ecobank for hosting us and for the invaluable insights shared. This experience has deepened our knowledge and motivates us to contribute meaningfully to Zambia’s financial sector,” Shilo said.
He said the experience broadened the students’ understanding of internal audit practices and corporate governance while inspiring them to pursue excellence as future auditors and financial professionals.
Shilo said students looked forward to more collaborations with Ecobank and other industry leaders as the bank continues to invest in the next generation of auditors and financial leaders.
