The Zambia Police Service in Lusaka says it has apprehended a man wanted in connection with disturbances in Mandevu Compound earlier this week.
The suspect, identified as Jimmy Muteba, 43, commonly known as ‘Kalufyanya’ of Mandevu Compound, was arrested during an intelligence-led operation.
According to a statement issued in Lusaka on Thursday, Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said the arrest took place in Chaisa Compound at around 19:00 hours on June 17, 2026.
Muteba was among several individuals being sought by police for offences linked to the unrest in Mandevu Compound on June 16, 2026 as reported by Zambia Monitor.
“The suspect was apprehended in Chaisa Compound. He is among several individuals wanted by police in connection with offences of malicious damage to property and theft committed during disturbances that occurred in Mandevu Compound on June 16, 2026,” Chilabi said.
He said Muteba was currently being held in custody while investigations into the incident continue.
“The operation remains ongoing, and police have intensified efforts to apprehend other suspects who are still at large, to ensure that all persons suspected of involvement in the criminal activities are brought to justice,” Chilabi stated.
He also acknowledged the role of the public in the ongoing probe and expressed appreciation for community support.
Chilabi assured that the Zambia Police Service remained committed to maintaining law and order and has zero tolerance for political violence.
“Any individuals found culpable will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law, regardless of their political affiliation or status,” he said.
Chilabi indicated that further updates would be issued as the investigation progresses.

Police this week launched a manhunt for suspects linked to malicious damage to property and theft at Mutambe Ground in Mandevu Compound, Lusaka, on June 16, 2026.
The incident occurred around 15:00 hours when Tonse Alliance supporters reportedly held a lawful meeting at the grounds, according to Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi.
The meeting was allegedly disrupted by a group suspected to be United Party for National Development (UPND) supporters, leading to confrontation, property damage and theft.
Godwin Phiri, 30, of Zanimuone West and aspiring Tonse Alliance candidate for Chaisa Ward 23, reported the matter to Emmasdale Police Station at 19:00 hours.
Phiri said his silver Mercedes Benz, registration AHC 744, was vandalized and the damage included shattered windscreens, a broken window, four slashed tyres, and sugar and sand poured into the fuel tank.
He also reported the theft of K20,000 cash, 100 Tonse Alliance T-shirts and 50 caps. He estimated total loss from stolen and damaged property at K81,500.
Two teachers’ houses at Mutambe Primary School were also affected after their windowpanes were damaged during the clash.
A maroon Toyota Rumion, registration BAL 2254, belonging to 42-year-old taxi driver Brighton Musungule of Zanimuone West, was damaged as well.
