The Road Development Agency (RDA) has reportedly awarded contracts worth more than K4.9 billion for the rehabilitation and upgrading of the Livingstone–Sesheke and Chipata–Lundazi roads in a major infrastructure investment aimed at improving transport, trade and road safety.
The projects, according to a statement issued on Friday by the RDA Chief Communications and Corporate Affairs Manager, Anthony Mulowa, which covered key transport corridors in Southern, Western and Eastern provinces, are expected to enhance connectivity while supporting economic growth and tourism.
“For the 212-kilometre Livingstone–Sesheke Road, the RDA has awarded the contract to Sino-Hydro Corporation Limited in a joint venture with Nchifar Enterprises Limited,” Mulowa said.

He said the project had been divided into two lots to speed up implementation.
Lot One, covering sections between Livingstone, Kazungula and Sesheke, has been awarded at K1.54 billion and includes the rehabilitation and upgrading of 10 kilometres of township roads in Livingstone and five kilometres in Sesheke.
Lot Two, valued at K1.74 billion, covers the remaining sections of the road and includes upgrading five kilometres of township roads each in Kazungula and Mwandi districts to bituminous standard.
“Both contracts will run for 30 months, comprising six months for design and 24 months for construction,” according to Mulowa.
He added that RDA had already issued Site Possession Certificates and Commencement Orders, officially marking the start of the projects.
According to the agency, the contractor had begun the design phase and was mobilising equipment to site ahead of full-scale construction.
