Zambia, Togo open new chapter of diplomatic and economic cooperation

Zambia and Togo have formally established accredited diplomatic representation, marking what officials described as a new chapter of cooperation between the two countries.

The two countries reaffirmed their longstanding friendship, mutual respect, Pan-African solidarity and commitment to peace, stability and sustainable development.

According to a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday, this was done when Daniel Mahongo, Zambia’s High Commissioner to Ghana, presented his Letters of Credence to Jean-Lucien Kwassi Lanyo Savi de Tové, Togolese President.

The ceremony accredits him as Zambia’s High Commissioner to the Republic of Togo with residence in Accra, Ghana.

During a meeting with President Savi de Tové, Mahongo reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to expanding cooperation in trade and investment, agriculture, mining, e-commerce, energy, transport and tourism.

He underscored his mandate to advance economic diplomacy and promote private-sector partnerships.

“This is aimed at translating shared priorities into concrete opportunities for industrialisation, value addition, job creation and intra-African trade, in support of Zambia’s Economic Transformation Agenda,” Mahongo said.

The High Commissioner also commended Togo’s visa-free entry initiative for African nationals.

He described it as an important step towards regional integration and continental economic cooperation, with practical opportunities to expand trade, tourism and people-to-people exchanges between Zambia and Togo.

Mahongo said during his tenure he would pursue concrete partnerships for the mutual benefit of the two countries and their peoples.
