UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has extended his lead with a 969,245-vote lead over National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP’s) Brian Mundubile after the Electoral Commission of Zambia announced consolidated results for 192 of 226 constituencies.
Hichilema has so far garnered 2,430,702 votes while Mr. Mundubile trails on 1,461,457 votes.
During the announcement at the National Totalling Centre in Lusaka on Monday, ECZ Chairperson, Mwangala Zaloumis said 34 constituencies remain to be tallied and verified before a final declaration can be made.
Results released show Hichilema posting massive margins in Southern, Western and North-Western provinces.
In Zimba’s Mapatizya constituency, Hichilema polled 38,365 votes against 144 for Mundubile and Chirundu recorded 22,565 for Hichilema to 2,477 for Mundubile, while Nalolo gave the UPND leader 21,039 votes compared to his rival’s 340.

Hichilema also swept Sikongo with 19,548 to 329, Chavuma with 19,272 to 1,331, and Kaoma Central with 18,518 to 1,075, Mundubile, however, registered strong showings on the Copperbelt and in Muchinga.
In Samfya’s Bangweulu Constituency, Mr. Mundubile led with 26,493 votes to 9,023 and also won Mungwi’s Malole with 20,431 to 3,994, Ndola’s Bwana Mkubwa with 20,249 to 10,361, and Chingola Central with 20,142 to 11,709.
Other Mundubile wins included Mufulira with 15,152 to 8,102, Chipata Central with 14,206 to 7,271, Chipangali East with 14,173 to 6,327, Mporokoso with 12,619 to 5,854, Luwingu Central with 11,245 to 4,560, and Kawambwa with 9,479 to 4,445.
Hichilema countered with big numbers in Lufwanyama, taking the West with 16,062 to 2,639 and the East with 18,079 to 3,595 and also won Mpongwe East 16,978 to 2,020 and Shangombo South 15,685 to 425.
Close contests were recorded in Luanshya’s Roan where Hichilema had 11,377 to Mundubile’s 9,610, and in Chienge where Hichilema led 8,171 to 9,129 for his rival.
With 85 percent of constituencies announced, Zaloumis said collation continues at the national results centre ahead of the final declaration.
