Police in Lusaka have arrested 8 suspected criminals believed to be behind a spate of break-ins reported in Kalikiliki and Mtendere East Compounds, particularly at Real Friends Shopping Complex, Bola-Bet and Linbets.
Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Chipo Kaitisha, said Mtendere Police Station also recorded a shooting incident between 03:00 hours and 04:00 hours on August 23, 2026, in Kalikiliki Compound, Mtendere East in Lusaka.
Kaitisha confirmed this in a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday
“The incident occurred during a police operation aimed at apprehending suspected criminals believed to be behind a spate of break-ins reported in Kalikiliki and Mtendere East Compounds, particularly at Real Friends Shopping Complex, Bola-Bet and Linbets,” she said.
Kaitisha said during the operation, police officers pursued a suspected notorious ex-convict identified as Patrick Moyo, aged 26, who allegedly attempted to charge at the officers while armed with a panga (machete).
She said the suspect subsequently fled from the scene.
“In the course of the pursuit, police officers discharged one round from a rifle, which struck and wounded the suspect. A blood trail was observed at the scene, although the suspect initially managed to evade arrest,” Kaitisha stated.
She said following a tip-off from members of the public, police officers conducted a follow-up operation at the suspect’s residence in Kalikiliki Compound.

Kaitisha said the suspect was found hiding in his bedroom with gunshot wounds to the chest and right hand.
“He was apprehended and taken to the Hospital, where he is currently admitted under police guard and receiving medical treatment,” she said.
Kaitisha said during the same operation, seven other suspects, all residents of Kalikiliki Compound, were apprehended namely Robson Nkhoma, aged 24, Andrew Mwale, aged 22 and five juveniles aged between 17 and 18 respectively.
She commended members of the public for providing information that assisted officers in locating and apprehending the fleeing suspect.
The suspects remain in Police custody as Investigations into the matter were ongoing, and further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
