A photograph of President Hakainde Hichilema carrying a pair of high-heeled shoes belonging to First Lady Mutinta Hichilema while the couple posed for a photograph has generated widespread discussion on social media, with thousands of Zambians praising the gesture as a symbol of love, humility and partnership.

The image, shared on the President’s official Facebook page, attracted comments and reactions from his followers who debated what they described as a simple but meaningful act of affection.

Many social media users applauded the Head of State for demonstrating that acts of service and care have a place even in the highest office.

One Facebook user, Shantel Mukinda, joked that if the President could carry the First Lady’s high heels, ordinary men should have no problem carrying shopping bags for their wives.

“If the President can carry the First Lady’s heels, who are you ba John not to carry the plastic bag with vegetables inside?” she wrote, drawing hundreds of reactions.

Another user, King of Odds, humorously claimed his wife had called him demanding the same level of affection before their planned marriage.

“I have received a call from my wife to be that if I can’t love her like Kainde then I should forget about marriage next weekend, so I came to check what dad has posted,” he commented.

Katota Mcheken Godfrey said the photograph had reminded him why long-married couples often resemble each other.

“Why do husband and wife eventually resemble each other as they grow older?” he asked.
Alex Nyozani Shawa described the image as an example of leadership extending beyond public service.

“Leadership is not only about serving the nation but also about showing love, unity and compassion. May God continue to bless and strengthen the President and the First Lady,” he wrote.

Others viewed the photograph through a political lens.

Lucy Banda suggested the display of affection would frustrate the President’s political opponents, saying it reflected “genuine love” between the First Couple.

While opinions varied, the overwhelming tone of the discussion centred on the President’s willingness to perform what many regarded as a simple but thoughtful gesture for his wife.

The photograph has since continued to circulate widely across social media platforms, with many users describing it as a reminder that small acts of kindness and mutual support remain an important part of marriage, regardless of status or position.
