African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has appointed, Peter Adeshola Olowononi, to lead its Southern Africa operations, including Zambia, as the lender seeks to deepen trade, investment and regional integration across the region.
The bank said on Monday that Olowononi had been appointed Director of Regional Operations for Southern Africa and would be based in Harare, Zimbabwe.
He previously served as Director of Client Relations for Anglophone West Africa, where he gained extensive experience in client coverage, transaction origination and regional business development.
Afreximbank said the appointment was part of a broader strengthening of its regional leadership aimed at improving market coverage, client engagement and transaction execution across Africa and the Caribbean.
The bank’s Southern Africa operations cover Zambia, Zimbabwe, Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Lesotho, Seychelles and South Africa.

Afreximbank President and Chairman of the Board of Directors, George Elombi, said the appointments reflected the depth of professional talent within the bank and its focus on executing its development mandate.
“These appointments highlight the depth of leadership and professional talent within Afreximbank, as well as our commitment to placing experienced executives at the centre of executing the Bank’s development mandate,” Elombi said.

Meanwhile, Eric Intong Monchu has been appointed Group Managing Director, Client Relations and Regional Operations, based in Cairo, after serving in the position in an acting capacity.
Kudakwashe Matereke, who previously headed regional operations in East Africa, has been appointed Director of Regional Operations for Anglophone West Africa and will be based in Abuja, Nigeria.
Humphrey Nwugo has been appointed Director of Regional Operations for Eastern Africa, based in Kampala, Uganda, after serving in a similar role in Southern Africa.
In the Caribbean, Roy Reid has been appointed Chief Operating Officer of Afreximbank’s Caribbean Office in Bridgetown, Barbados, effective July 15. He previously served as a senior adviser at the Office of Jamaica’s Prime Minister.
Afreximbank said the appointments would strengthen links between client coverage, regional operations and transaction execution as it seeks to expand market coverage and deepen engagement with clients and stakeholders across Africa and the Caribbean.
