Government has reportedly lost over K4 million for failure by Sarago General Dealers to deliver about five Toyota Land Cruisers hardtop models to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security.

This was contained in the Auditor-General’s report released on December 1, 2022.

The report indicated that: “although the supplier had been paid in full as at August 31, 2023, five out of 10 vehicles had not been delivered.”

It further stated that Danait Transport Limited also failed to deliver a containerised truck and overpayment refund to the ministry.

“On December 15, 2022, the ministry entered into a contract with Danait Transport Limited for the provision of transportation, customs clearing and insurance-in-transit services for security wings under the ministry at a total contract sum of K22, 456, 250 with a delivery period of seven days,” the report stated.

It revealed that the scope of services among others included provision and clearance of 47, 30 tonnes containerised trucks at a cost of K7, 300, 000.

“On January 5, 2023, the transporter cleared and delivered 46 containers as per delivery note number 0512. However, it was observed that despite the transporter only delivering the said containers, the full amount of K7, 300, 000 was paid resulting in an overpayment of K155, 319 being the cost for one container.

“As at July 31, 2023, the remaining containerised truck had neither been delivered nor the overpayment refunded,” according to the report.
