Chama South lawmaker, Mung’andu, cries for help over submerged homes, farms in Chifunda chiefdom

Davison Mung’andu, Chama South Member of Parliament, has called on government to quickly provide humanitarian aid to flood victims whose houses and crops have been submerged in water.

Mung’andu disclosed in an interview with Journalists on Wednesday in Chipata that floods have damaged some houses and crops fields in Chief Chifunda’s area in Chama South of Eastern Province.

He explained that the most hit areas by floods were in Chifunda chiefdom.

“Some houses have collapsed and some are on the verge of collapsing, while some crop fields have being washed away,” Mung’andu said.

He indicated that the Chama South constituency has become inaccessible because of the floods.

“The area cab only become accessible with helicopter (s) because it is flooded.The entire Chiefdom has become extremely flooded,” Mung’andu said.

He appealed to government through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit to quickly come to the aid of the people of Chama South.

He said DMMU should quickly provide some food and non- food items, such as tents and chlorine to the flood victims in the area.
