The Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested and charged a Clinical Officer at the Ministry of Health for illegally obtaining a financial benefit from the government amounting to K153,000.

Commission’s Head of Corporate Communications, Timothy Moono, stated that the suspect, Daniel Tembo, aged 50, was charged with one count of Obtaining Pecuniary Advantage by False Pretense.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday, Moono explained that Tembo, while serving as a Clinical Officer General in the Ministry of Health, dishonestly entered into another employment contract with the Clinton Health Access Initiative without resigning from his government position.

“Through these means, he obtained a pecuniary advantage of K153,012.46 from the Government of Zambia, a matter concerning the Ministry of Health, a public body,” Moono said.

He added that investigations revealed Tembo dishonestly informed his supervisor that he had been seconded to the Clinton Health Access Initiative, which was false.

“Tembo proceeded to accept employment at the Clinton Health Access Initiative, signing a pensionable contract and drawing a salary while continuing to receive a salary from the Ministry of Health,” he added.

Tembo was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 16, 2024.
