Five outstanding technology students from various universities across Zambia have reportedly departed for China to participate in Huawei’s flagship global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, Seeds for the Future.
The one-week intensive initiative will immerse participants in advanced technology training and cultural exchange, offering exposure to cutting-edge developments in areas such as 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Cloud Computing.
In a statement, Huawei described Seeds for the Future as its longest-running CSR programme, designed to nurture Information and Communication Technology (ICT) talent, promote global knowledge transfer, and encourage collaboration.
Since its inception, the programme has reportedly benefitted over 12,000 students from more than 137 countries, in collaboration with over 500 universities worldwide.

Ahead of their departure, the students paid a courtesy call on the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Technology and Science, Brilliant Habeenzu, who applauded Huawei for its continued investment in Zambia’s human capital.
“We thank Huawei for empowering our youth through innovation and technology,” said Habeenzu.
He stated: “As a country, we need such initiatives to optimize key sectors like agriculture and mining. I urge the students to absorb as much knowledge as possible and return with innovative solutions that will benefit Zambia.”
He also emphasised the importance of professionalism and national pride, noting that the experience would enhance the students’ leadership, technical skills, and social responsibility.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Samukhele Ngoma expressed gratitude to both the Zambian Government and Huawei for the opportunity.
“We are honoured and excited to be part of this life-changing experience. We pledge to represent Zambia with excellence and return home ready to contribute meaningfully to the country’s digital transformation,” Ngoma said.
Huawei Public Relations Manager, Louis Mwape, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Zambia’s digital development.
“Huawei recognises that digital transformation, through ICT training and skills development, is central to Zambia’s goal of becoming a middle-income prosperous nation by 2030,” said Mwape.
He also commended the government for its support and for inspiring young talent through the Seeds for the Future programme.
