Former Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari, who led his country both as a military ruler and as an elected president, has died at the age of 82, an aide has confirmed.

Garba Shehu, Buhari’s former spokesperson, said: “The family of the former president has announced the passing on of Muhammadu Buhari this afternoon in a clinic in London.”

According to France 24, Buhari died in a London hospital on Sunday.
