Finance and National Planning Minister, Situmbeko Musokotwane, has announced that government will soon be establishing an evidence lab in partnership with the International Growth Centre (IGC).

Musokotwane at the 2024 IGC forum in Lusaka on Wednesday explained that this initiative aimed to fortify data-driven decision-making by fostering collaboration between academia, government and the private sector.

The Minister stressed the importance of using data and evidence to inform policy.

“The lab will serve as a dynamic hub, promoting interdisciplinary research and generating actionable insights to inform critical policy decisions.

“By championing evidence-based policymaking, we aim to turn data into a powerful catalyst for positive change in Zambia,” he said.

On the forum, Musokotwane said the agenda encompassed a comprehensive exploration of pivotal topics.

This ranged from deliberating on Zambia’s path to macroeconomic stability, discussing agricultural potential, to strategising for green industrialisation and unlocking the mining sector’s potential.

According to the Minister, discussions would chart the course for sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

“The richness of our discussions lies not only in the diversity of perspectives but also in the collective commitment to transforming dialogue into tangible policy actions.

“I encourage each participant to actively engage, share insights, and contribute to the collective intelligence that will shape the policies driving Zambia’s economic future,” Musokotwane said.
