Government has released K1.4 billion for the May–June 2026 Social Cash Transfer (SCT) payment cycle, with more than 1.5 million poor and vulnerable households set to benefit across the country.
Ministry of Community Development and Social Services Permanent Secretary, Angela Kawandami, said payments commenced on June 29, 2026, adding that the latest disbursement brings the total amount released under the programme since January to K4.3 billion.
She said the 2026 National Budget and Supplementary Budget had allocated K8.5 billion to the Social Cash Transfer programme.
Kawandami said government had continued expanding electronic payments under the programme, with 92 percent of beneficiary households now receiving their transfers through mobile money or bank accounts.

She urged beneficiaries to check their mobile money or bank accounts with their respective payment service providers.
“The digitisation of Social Cash Transfer payments has improved efficiency, transparency and accountability, while ensuring faster and more secure delivery of funds to beneficiaries,” Kawandami said.
She reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening social protection programmes to support vulnerable citizens.
“The Social Cash Transfer Programme remains one of Government’s key social protection interventions, helping vulnerable households meet their basic needs, improve food security and build sustainable livelihoods. The programme also continues to stimulate local economies by injecting over K1.4 billion into communities every two months,” she said.
