Government says the economy is not improving accidentally but by the strong economic measures put in place to enhance the lives of citizens

Speaking during the press briefing held on Tuesday in Lusaka, Ministry of Information and Media Director Spokesperson ,Thabo Kawana, said mining houses are declaring their final year taxes and this is earning the country the much needed revenue and increasing the Kwacha in circulation.

Kawana said the country has a stable mining tax regime for the mining sector which has led to the strengthening of the Kwacha under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema.

He has noted that the government is strict about the prudent use of resources, which has acted as a wake-up call for investors that the country’s trajectory is rising.

“Therefore, government is not playing ticks in the strengthening of the Kwacha as insinuated by some sections of society,” Kawana said.

Kawana said it is the same strong economic measures that have boosted investors’ confidence in the country.

“The strengthening of the Kwacha is by no means magical but by the discipline it has in running the economy,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kawana has refuted allegations that government is neutralising some sections of the church as purported by different sections of the media.

“Government is not in competition with the church because they are considered partners,” Kawana said.

He has since warned the accusers to stop misleading the public about crucial issues.
