The Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) has urged private sector companies to fully embrace the country’s Local Content Strategy, emphasizing that its success depended on implementation rather than mere adoption.
ZACCI President, Anthony Kabaghe, said the strategy must translate into tangible benefits, including contracts for local businesses, sustainable employment, and stronger value chains.
“Success will be determined by what we, the private sector, do with it. A strategy alone is not enough,” Kabaghe said in a statement on Wednesday.
He called on companies, particularly in the mining, energy, and construction sectors, to open procurement systems to capable local suppliers, stressing that local content was a driver of economic resilience, job creation, and protection of domestic products.
“Buy local, grow value chains; grow value chains, create jobs; create jobs, build economic resilience and sustainability,” Kabaghe said, urging businesses to invest in quality, capacity, and innovation to remain competitive.
Kabaghe highlighted ZACCI’s role as a platform for advocacy and support in the pursuit of shared prosperity, underlining that collaboration between government and private sector players was critical to delivering the intended outcomes of the Local Content Strategy.
