ICON Zambia CEO, Kazadi, resigns after arrest over alleged production, distribution of obscene content

ICON Zambia Chief Executive Officer, David Kazadi, has stepped down from his role following his arrest in connection with the alleged production and distribution of pornographic content.

Kazadi faces two counts of producing obscene material and two counts of circulating obscene material, contrary to Sections 177(1)(a) and 177(1)(b) of the Zambian Penal Code.

In a resignation letter dated July 18, 2025, Kazadi described the Zambian entertainment industry as “loud, dark, and merciless,” adding that he had learned silence is not an admission of guilt, and restraint is not a sign of weakness.

“I have poured my heart, energy, and personal resources into helping build an industry we can all be proud of. I have continued working alongside others to push for Zambia to be on the global map,” he stated.

Kazadi emphasized that remaining silent amid public controversy is, for now, the most responsible approach while legal processes take their course.

“Many of you know how much The ICON means to me. This journey has not been easy and certainly not lucrative, but my passion and deep belief in the creative potential of this country have continuously driven me,” he wrote.

He said The ICON Zambia was born out of a mission to empower young creatives through visibility and opportunity.

“Stepping down as a judge, in the midst of the noise and turmoil surrounding my personal life, was incredibly difficult but ultimately necessary,” he added.

Kazadi extended gratitude to the show’s sponsors, including Dr. Roger Siatwambo of Great North Academy, Dr. Aaron Mujajati and the CarePeak family, Hot FM, and Kazadi Films for their continued support.

“While I may be stepping back from the spotlight, I want to reassure our audience, partners, contestants, and all stakeholders that The ICON Zambia remains in exceptionally capable hands,” he said.

He expressed confidence in the team’s ability to deliver a compelling and inspiring second season of the talent show.

“Now, with renewed focus and a humbled heart, it gives me great joy to present what we’ve all been waiting for—the premiere of The ICON Zambia Season 2, this Sunday, July 20 at 7:30 PM,” Kazadi announced.
