A 24-year-old student from Kasisi Village, John Nedziwe, has appeared in the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court on 11 counts of forgery, uttering false documents, and obtaining money by false pretences amounting to over K90,000.

Nedziwe, accused of swindling multiple individuals by falsely promising them 100 percent university scholarships to Canada and Germany, pleaded not guilty to all charges before Senior Magistrate Trevor Kasanda.

According to the charge sheet, between January and March 2021, Nedziwe allegedly forged a National Registration Card (NRC) in the name of Andrew Mwanza, which he used to fraudulently register with Airtel Zambia and the University of Lusaka.

He also allegedly enrolled at the university using a forged Grade 12 certificate under the same false identity.

In related charges, Nedziwe is accused of obtaining K30,300 from Precious Nedziwe between January and May 2022 under the guise of securing her a Canadian university scholarship.

Other amounts allegedly obtained included K1,000 from Gift Phiri, K10,500 from Martha Chilala (on behalf of her daughter), K17,820 from Webster Banda (for his daughter), K400 from Mweemba Boldwin, and another K17,820 from Lydia Nedziwe, all under similar promises of international university placements.

The State alleges that Nedziwe forged and knowingly presented fraudulent documents to gain both financial and academic benefits, misleading victims with promises of non-existent overseas education opportunities.
