Kitwe man reportedly dies from crocodile attack, body parts missing

A man from Kitwe has reportedly died at the hands of a vicious crocodile while looking for water on the banks of Kafue River.

According to police, only the ear, chest and legs were retrieved while the other parts of the body are reportedly still missing.

Copperbelt Province Police Chief, Peacewell Mweemba, said Jack Kapenda of Kamatipa compound Kitwe died after being caught by a crocodile in the Kafue River.

Mweemba explained that authorities with help of residents managed to recover some parts of the body, the head, chest and legs were retrieved from the water while other body parts were yet to be recovered.

Police visited the scene and observed that the deceased was fetching water in the Kafue River at a point where they normally do but was caught by the reptile which likewise dragged the deceased into the water.

The body parts, according to Mweemba was identified by the father to be deceased Charles Kapenda, 52 of the same address.

The body is currently lying in the Kitwe Teaching Hospital mortuary awaiting burial.
