One dies, another survives crocodile attack in Gwembe district

A 30-year-old woman of Kkota-Kkota Ward in Gwembe District of Southern Province has died after being attacked by a crocodile, while she was washing some kitchen utensils on the shores of Lake Kariba.

Area Councillor, Edward Gama, who has confirmed the death said the incident happened on Wednesday and has identified the deceased as Croudester Goga of Hamatuna area in Gwembe District.

Gama said Ms. Goga was alone at the time she was attacked by the giant reptile as other family members are believed to have gone on different errands.

“Am a bearer of a sad news of the death of our sister, Croudester Goga of Hamatuba area who has died after being attacked by a crocodile while she was washing some plates and other utensils at the shores of lake Kariba.” he said.

Gama said the body of the deceased has since been retrieved from the lake and was buried immediately.

And in a related development, a 15-year-old boy of Simulikila village in Sinafala ward in Gwembe district is battling for his life at Maamba General Hospital after being attacked by a crocodile.

Desmond Siandelema, the area Ward Councilor has identified the victim as Oline Chaliseenta who met his fate while fishing on Lake Kariba on Tuesday.

Siandelema who is happy that the boy survived the attack after wrestling with the reptile is concerned with the rate at which people are being attacked.

“The boy was attacked while fishing in lake Kariba. We are really happy that he managed to fight back until he rescued himself. right now he is admitted in Maamba General Hospital,’ he said.

Siandelema is concerned with the rate at which people are being attacked by crocodiles in the area and so far five people have died in a short space of time.
